Alliance names 2017 OSGi leadership winners

The OSGi Alliance announced the 2017 recipients of the OSGi Alliance Leadership Award program at its annual OSGi Community Event in Ludwigsburg, Germany, Oct. 24-26.  The Alliance recognized Dr. Tim Verbelen as the top individual contributor and Huawei as the top organizational contributor to the OSGi Alliance and the OSGi ecosystem.

The criteria for the award are outstanding contributions to the OSGi market, industry or technology, with consideration for collaboration, creativity and innovation, and accomplishments that benefit the OSGi ecosystem. Both member and non-member individuals and organizations are considered for the leadership award.

Dr. Tim Verbelen

OSGi Alliance President Dan Bandera presents Dr. Tim Verbelen the 2017 leadership award for individual contributions.

Tim Verbelen is a senior research at imec, Belgium, and an Invited Contributor to the OSGi Alliance. He has made significant contributions to both the Enterprise Expert Group and IoT Expert Group in recent years, driving RFCs, implementing its and advocating OSGi to the broad audiences around the world.

Verbelen received his Ph.D. degree with his dissertation “Adaptive Offloading and Configuration of Resource Intensive Mobile Applications” in 2013. In October 2014, he joined iMinds IoT lab working on distributed intelligence for supporting the next generation IoT applications. As senior researcher at imec he works on deep learning in distributed and resource-constrained environments.

He presented “Run OSGi on your robot and teach it new tricks” at this year’s OSGi Community Event.
