SDTimes. From the Editors: Microsoft made the right call with VSTS Don’t scoff this time. The OSGi team seems to be putting its money where its mouth is when it comes to component-based development. At the heart of the claim is rigid dedication to the principle of write once, run anywhere. With OSGi now appearing on mobile devices and desktops, in addition to application servers and RCP applications, progress is being made toward realizing Java’s full promise. With OSGi on a phone and application server, the same application bundle can be run on both; not so for Java EE and Java ME. That, of course, is a good thing, and we're anxious to see the Eclipse Foundation and its legions of OSGi supporters and developers continue down this path. If they can maintain such compatibility above all, then the possibility of component-based design and development is that much more real. Read more... |
